Enjoy your new wooden floors in Ealing
Sir John Soane is a man who deserves to be better known for his architectural achievements. He designed churches and his early 19th century country house at Pitzhanger Manor is now a gallery and cultural venue. Yet his main triumphs - the best sadly destroyed - lie elsewhere. As a lover of beauty and form, Sloane would have approved of the traditional wooden floor. How would he have reacted to the sight of yours? To repair and restore the marked, scratched or damaged, he’d have brought in the best company he could find. Were he living today, this one would pass muster.. The Ealing Floor Sanding Specialists! Hammersmith Bridge of 1887 has never rated among London’s more popular Thames crossings. This large suspension bridge was designed by the engineer, Joseph Bazalgette. He was more noted for restoring the Thames embankments and London’s crumbling sewage systems - so perhaps aesthetics were not his strong point... As to the infamous flyover, the pace of its traffic softened by the clerestory and tower of the church, this 1960-61 effort by the Special Works Department of London County Council looks best from underneath. Impressive enough, with its concrete segments carried by a single row of columns. For a gentler experience, try the colour scheme offered by the Salutation pub opposite the town hall. From 1910, its mellow red brick is dominated by glazed tiles in an extravagant mix of mauve and blue. |
